Naturopathic doctors are frequently accused of being obsessed with patients’ bowels.

This is because digestion, like sleep, healthy emotions, and exercise, is one of the pillars of health. A healthy, nutrient-rich diet is important, but if you are not breaking down your food and absorbing the nutrients, all your efforts are for nothing.

Conventional medicine is focused on detecting disease states such as celiac, crohn’s or ulcerative colitis. If none of these disease states can be found, a patient with troublesome digestive symptoms is told they have IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

From a Naturopathic Medicine perspective IBS can be broken down into many different subgroups depending on which function of the digestive track is not working correctly.

Is your body secreting too much or too little stomach acid?

Is the sphincter between your esophagus and stomach working properly?

Is your digestive bacteria balanced?

Is the lining of your digestive tract inflamed?

Are you producing enough bile acids?

These are just a few of the things that can go wrong in your GI tract and produce uncomfortable symptoms.

Sometimes what you are eating can cause or be a contributing factor to your digestive problems.

IgG Food Sensitivities are delayed reactions to specific foods triggered by IgG antibodies. Because IgG food reactions take hours or days to develop, this makes it difficult to determine which food is responsible for the reaction without doing the testing.

There is a growing body of evidence to support the clinical benefits of eliminating IgG reactive foods from the diet. IgG food sensitivities have been implicated in migraine headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, fatigue, eczema, and difficulty losing weight.
